Ed's comment: A wise man once told us that the answer to any good question always begins with the same two words--namely: "That depends..." We're not sure if that makes this a good question or not, but indeed its answer depends on your audience. If you have a small vanity site and simply don't care about making its content accessible to those with reading or vision impairments, then perhap site accessibility doesn't matter...to you. But for any kind of site that may eventually wish to reach a broader audience, or whose sponsor wants to attract government business at any level (most cities, counties, states, and the feds all require their vendors to offer accessible sites to users of their products or services), accessibility isn't an option--it's a mandate. That's why learning about and paying attention to accessibility is important, and why you should start including accessibility as part of your site design, testing, and maintenance strategy. |
